Sushi In St Julians Malta - Gochi

On Sunday evening we just fancied something light to eat after a heavyweight lunch at the Palace Hotel (more about this later).

We jumped on a bus down to St Julians Bay to have a stroll about and see what was happening. I'd seen a Sushi place when looking for the New China House Chinese Restaurant earlier in the week and we thought we'd see if they were open.

Gochi is just on the hill of St Georges Rd and is a great little sushi restaurant and take away.
We were shown to our table and in typical japanese style were sat on the floor. The restaurant is small and was quite busy, people seemed to phone in and reserve tables so if you're in town and want to plan something check the yellow pages for their number.

The food was fantastic and very cheap a typical roll of sushi cut up into 6 pieces was @3-3.50 Euro.
Between the 2 of us we had 3 rolls and a small roll and 2 soft drinks. The total came to 12.80 Euro. Bargain and what we had would probably have been lunch on an average day.

On the way out we noticed that they seemed to do a roaring trade on take away. If you're staying locally perhaps give this a go (we will be next time).

Anyway there you go if you fancy some sushi and you're stying in and around the Sliema, St Julians area of Malta try Gochi Sushi Restaurant and Take Away on St georges Rd.

Lunch in Sliema Malta - Mint Delicatessen

If you're in Malta and staying near Sliema and are looking for somewhere to go for lunch then you must try Mint!
Having read reviews on Trip Advisor before we arrived in Malta, one that came up over and over again with good reviews was Mint. Mint is a Delicatessen/Coffee Shop on Tower Rd, Sliema, Malta.

It doesn't have a set menu as such, it has large fridges with different fresh food that changes Daily. There's a great variety from salads and sandwiches to Quiches and Chicken Kebabs etc Everything they do looks delicious and they have an amazing selection of Cakes and Deserts aswell (The Chocolate Brownie was epic)
They offer alchohol aswell as a range of soft drinks and even had Soya milk so my girlfriend could have a (very good) Soya Latte.
The guys at Mint seem to have it dialled and I strongly urge you to give them a go if you're looking for a spot of lunch or even a coffee and cake sat on the terrace.

Mint can be found on the left hand side of Tower Road as you head from Sliema to St Julians in Malta. I believe they are open everyday until 7pm but I think they sell out of stuff so get there around 12-2pm for the best selection.

Added bonus is there's a great little Ice Cream shop directly acrosss the road ;)

New China House, Chinese Restaurant in St Julians Malta

It was Friday evening and I fancied eating Chinese. I looked at Trip advisor and came up with a few choices. As with everything on Trip Advisor someone throws a spanner in the works with a terrible review and puts you off. So I searched through google for a while and came up with a couple of possibles. From what I can gather Restaurants in Malta aren't that up to date with the world wide web and don't seem to have websites (hence why I'm blogging this now), so it took a bit of research. Anyway we came across a decent review here at www.malta.mydestinationinfo.com and decided that we would head out in search of the New China House Restaurant in St Julians Malta. We took the local Yellow Bus along to St Julians from Sliema ( If you're in this area the local yellow buses are cheap and frequent taking you along the coast, they are pretty rickety mind so be prepared for an experience, but at less than half a Euro it's well cheap).

The New China House is located in Spinola Road, St Julians, Malta. It's a 2 minute walk from the Hilton Hotel, just up a side street that has a bar called Dicks bar on the corner.
It was a busy Friday Night in the restaurant and the manageress managed to squeeze us in ( from what I could make out it's probably best to book here especially at the weekend).
I won't go into a full rundown of what we ate course by course but the Steamed Fillet Of Dentici Fish with Soy Sauce And Ginger was exceptional.

The staff were all great and our food was spot on. Our meal for 2 came to 65 Euro's which included a decent Bottle of Wine (@ 14 euro) and 2 Fish Dishes (probably the most expensive). We both thought it was excellent value for money. There did seem to be banquet style menu's aswell, we'll try them next time no doubt.

We had a chat with the Manageress whilst waiting for the rain to stop (yes it rains in Malta) and she told us that her family has owned the place for 14 years and the restaurant itself was the first Chinese Restaurant in Malta and was opened 43 years ago.

Anyway to sum it up if you're after a decent Chinese Meal in the Sliema, St Julians area of Malta check out the New China House Chinese Restaurant at 8 Spinola Road, St Julians. Tel: 21355021 or 21351709.
Best bet is to call up and book a table, tell them you read about them here, hopefully they'll get a website up at somepoint and we can link you to it. In the meantime here's a link to a PDF Menu and a map that'll get you near enough there.
Enjoy your meal!
